When Nature Makes Art

Did you know that Leonardo da Vinci experimented with eco printing?  Folio 197 verso of Leonardo da Vinci’s Codice Atlantico is famous for his print of a sage leaf, accompanied by his recipe for making plant impressions.The beauty of nature can be revealed in textiles as in no other medium. Learn more about different types of eco-printing like steam dying and sun dying and what organic materials work best. Participants will practice different methods like the flat method and rolled method and will bring their pieces home. Programming will include visits and demonstrations from artists and botanists who will share more about the science of plant dyes.
