This course is designed to introduce students to the world of honeybees from lifecycle to production of everybody’s favorite natural sweetener. In this unique program, students will learn the anatomy, organization, and members of the colony, equipment used in beekeeping, how to assemble and maintain hives, how practices change seasonally, pests and diseases of the hive, and how to harvest and process honey. In addition, students will learn about the foods produced through pollination, identify nectar sources visited by bees, and how to properly sample honey.
