Molecular Gastronomy, Culinary Botany & Food Science - from test tubes to taste buds

Food science is an incredibly important discipline and offers hands-on context for a wide array of chemical reactions and physical changes. Kinetic energy, hydrogen bonds and endothermic reactions can be examined in a process as simple as boiling water - very young students become engaged in advanced scientific concepts through an in-depth understanding of how food interacts with heat, water and other compounds.

Students in grades K-8 can join our STEPS for Gifted students program twice a month to perform experiments, source wild edibles and understand the changes that our food undergoes when exposed to heat and water. Students will also examine nutritional value and medicinal benefits of foods that grow wild in our urban landscape. Sign up today!
