HOW WE LEARN

DISCOVERY LEVELS

Instead of traditional grade levels, students at Verdi EcoSchool join mixed-age Discovery Levels, the academic groupings that determine the depth of exploration in each required subject. Students move through discovery of academic content along a mastery scale and spend time learning in small groups with children who are generally closer in age and development. Students spend 2-3 years in a Discovery Level gaining the skills necessary to move to the next level. The age ranges offered below are just a guide as we recognize that each child develops uniquely as an individual.

DISCOVERY LEVELS

1 & 2

MASTERY LEVEL:

BEGINNING

Children in Discovery Level 1 are 4 - 6 years of age, just beginning the mastery journey.

Children in Discovery Level 2 are those continuing to practice beginning skills and are 6-8 years of age.

MASTERY LEVEL: DEVELOPING

Children in Discovery Level 3 are 8 - 10 years of age, moving into the Developing stage..

Children in Discovery Level 4 are those continuing to practice developing skills and are 11-13 years of age.

PROFICIENT

Children in Discovery Level 5 are 14-15 years of age and becoming comfortable exploring academic concepts independently.

Children in Discovery Level 6 are 16-17 years of age and are not only comfortable exploring and proposing new academic courses of study but are able to work independently.
